"Sydney is an incredibly hard worker on all tasks thrown her way and stands out among all of the other team members who have been involved in our company. Sydney stood out because of her eagerness to learn and being able to expand her creativity on another level."

Hello! My name is Sydney Cournoyer. I have a degree in advertising and a minor in event management from Iowa State University. Go Cyclones! I graduated in May 2021. I have experience in copy writing, graphic design, SEO, photography, social media, creating advertisements, and much more. I recently graduated from the University of Denver with a Master's in Strategic Communication in June 2023.

I am highly motivated and driven by results. In high school, I finished with a 4.06 GPA. At Iowa State, I graduated summa cum laude with a 3.96 GPA. I also finished my Master's at the University of Denver with a 3.96 GPA. Throughout my education, I have had jobs, internships, and have been a member of multiple clubs and campus communities. Having a work-life balance is extremely important to me and has kept me motivated (and more importantly, not allowed me any time to procrastinate) throughout my college experience.

I want to work in PR and advertising because every day is different and there are a variety of jobs you can have with this degree. I have had internships that have allowed me to work in graphic design, writing, social media and much more on a daily basis. My aunt worked at Nike for many years in their advertising department and my cousin studied advertising at the University of Oregon. My dream job would be to work as a brand strategist. I love the process of growing a brand from scratch and working on brand awareness strategies.

In the past three years, I have interned at two B2B software companies, a concert management company, a NASA affiliated space grant consortium, and a full-service advertising agency.

Outside of my professional life, I have always been interested in nonfiction filmmaking. I love documentaries and travel shows such as “Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown.” Ever since I started following Bourdain, I have been extremely passionate about traveling. During my undergrad years, I studied abroad in Lviv, Ukraine and Urbino, Italy. While in Ukraine, I worked with two students from the Ukrainian Catholic University to write and shoot a short documentary. I believe traveling and being immersed in a different country brings more knowledge and understanding of a culture than a textbook ever would. I recently completed a semester abroad in Helsingborg, Sweden. I was apart of the graduate student exchange at Lund University in Lund, Sweden.

Movies have always been a huge part of my life. In college, I joined the Film Producer’s Club and co-directed a short film that won second place at Iowa State's 48 Hour Film Festival. The ability to be creative in visual media is a hugely underestimated characteristic. I love to study the works of great filmmakers in my free time and watch “Lessons From the Screenplay” and "Every Frame a Painting" on YouTube. Some of my favorite movies include: “Memento”, “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, “Parasite” and “Birdman.”
